The Author, Markus Zusak
Markus Zusak is a fairly popular author for someone who had only written a total of five books. He is an Australian author mainly known by his international bestsellers, The Book Thief, and I Am The Messenger. His success with The Book Thief led to the release of the film based on it in the year 2013 and is translated in 38 languages which is astounding for someone who began so small. He also wrote Underdogs, Fighting Ruben Wolfe, and When Dogs Cry, which were his first three books he had written, and his lesser popular few. His upcoming novel will be called Bridge of Clay, but he decided to write in the first place when he was 16 because he loved the feeling of turning pages without realizing it, and being so involved with the stories. One meaningful quote he’s shared with us is: “Failure has been my best friend as a writer. It tests you, to see if you have what it takes to see it through.” This quotes out that we should never look down and always strive for the better of things. Markus Zusak has also won a handful of awards, as well, such as the 2003 CBC Book of the Year Award (Older Readers), and the 2003 NSW Premier's Literary Award (Ethel Turner Prize), for I Am The Messenger (Also known as: The Messenger).
Although Zusak does not have an internet website, you may contact him directly through his Tumblr, Twitter, or Facebook for further information if desired, though he’s more of a tumblr user.
